I had been long awaiting the release of The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel after my Nana and I had thoroughly enjoyed the feel good fest that was the first one. What better way then to make an evening of it than to combine the beautiful experience of India on screen with a delicious taste of India off.
Luckily the ever equipped Sydney caters for such a whim. Govindas Restaurant in Darlinghurst boasts many Indian experiences such as meditation and even seminars on the Bhagavad-Gita. One of its most popular attractions however is the dinner/movie combo which it offers. The website recommends allowing half an hour for dinner before your movie although we had time to kill so gave it an hour and a half. The restaurant runs a vegetarian friendly Indian buffet and I quickly helped myself to the deliciously warming Dahl followed by a huge pile of rice, lentil bake and channa aloo. And of course a huge pile of popadoms.
After we had eaten our fill, and then some, we joined the queue winding upstairs to get into the movie theatre. Instead of the usual upright chairs, Govindas theatre is full of reclining floor cushions for you to kick off your shoes and get comfy on. A good thing really after the amount of food I had consumed.
All round it was a wonderful evening and well worth a visit for any movie goers with a penchant for Indian food or indeed anyone who wants something a little different from their cinema trip.
